Island Scenery & Boardwalk
A lighted boardwalk allows easy movement around the scenic Hummingbird Island shoreline, connecting guest cabins to our new dining room, lodge and other facilities.
Stroll along the boardwalk and you'll be treated to amazing Alaskan scenery, including the island-studded waterway know as Alaska's Inside Passage. Our island and others nearby are forested, with rocky shorelines. Wildflowers and azaleas are abundant in this lush, rain forest environment.
Diminutive hummingbirds seek out the island's nectars while humpback whales surface in the waterways and eagles soar overhead. Local sea lions, otters and many kinds of sea birds are often seen from the boardwalks, cabins and lodge. Black bears and grizzlies live on some area islands and on the mainland, but not on Hummingbird Island. Trips to view bears can be arranged on request.
Cruise ships and boats of all kinds can be seen in the surrounding straights. Huge cruise liners steam into Sitka while adventures paddle sea kayaks between the islands.
Sunsets are often stunning in this island paradise.
Bring your camera and plenty of film.
